New ping service for the Danish blogosphere

Not long ago I got informed of a new ping & trackback service released for the Danish bloggers. Twingly
You can make automatic pings to them from your blog. Simple insert this link under ping services on in your blog admin -
(For wordpress users: Go to Options -> Writing)

Politiken  is the first big media in Denmark to try this specific service from Twingly. If you link to a specific article from Politiken, your own link will be shown on the specific article and point back to you.
(It runs through a JavaScript so no reason to try this if are only interested in more link love)

Similar cases: was the first daily news paper (online media) that I know to try this sort of trackback service delivered by
If you ask me I think it gives a good synergy between the online media and the public opinion on news.

Problems with my permalinks

I have been updating my code a bit with personal tweaks here and there and this resultet in failure on my posts permalinks.

Just to inform any with interest that I am working on solving the issues and the blog will be back to full functionality soon.

Updated July 21:
Ok, everything is back to normal. Used the opportunity to upgrade the blog to the latest build 2.2.
I realised WordPress had changed the way their trailing is handled and I needed to change that back to what I previously used. I found great help on fixing my permalink trailing slash at Install the plugin, and then hit the resource page and follow the easy steps.

If you as me like to remove the /category/ from your permalinks, feel free to jump to my post about it
Experience any problems? Report it to me (more…)

New Danish Blogs Directory Launched

Danskeweblogs.dkOk, it did not take me a week but rather 24 hours to re-code and setup the Danish blogs directory I had been thinking of.
Find it here: - Danish Blogs Directory

It will be free to submit blogs to it - like my other directories. The catch is I'm only accepting blogs from Denmark, but that is a large enough market for me anyways, and a neglected market tbh.
I will make sure this new blog directory will be the leading of it's kind in Denmark, by this date in 2008.

If you own a danish blog, I urge you to go submit your blog and feed now.

New website getting launched soon: Danish Blog Directory

It's a thought I've had most of 2006 to make a great directory for Danish blogs only, and yesterday I finally bought my domain to place it on. (Domain will be revealed soon)
Denmark has started to bloom with more and more blogs, and they don't really have any good places to submit them to regionally.

For starters, I will build it up as my traditional directories, but will in time make different functions like:
- Live rss feed viewer on the detail pages.
- Tag clouds.
- Integration of blog and feed search.
- Social bookmarking and blog stats on the detail pages.
- Will try and use Snap thumbnails on this site for the test of it.

I expect a week or so before I have the system setup and the first blogs submitted.

New version of WordPress released v2.1 - Ella

Ok, just noticed the new 2.1 version has been released by wordpress. And its called "Ella".

Here is a list of some of the improvements made:

  • Autosave makes sure you never lose a post again.
  • Our new tabbed editor allows you to switch between WYSIWYG and code editing instantly while writing a post.
  • The lossless XML import and export makes it easy for you to move your content between WordPress blogs.
  • Our completely redone visual editor also now includes spell checking.
  • New search engine privacy option allows you take you to indicate your blog shouldn't ping or be indexed by search engines like Google.
  • You can set any page to be the front page of your site, and put the latest posts somewhere else, making it much easier to use WordPress as a content management system.
  • Much more efficient database code, faster than previous versions. Domas Mituzas from MySQL went over all our queries with a fine-toothed comb.
  • Links in your blogroll now support sub-categories and you can add categories on the fly.
  • Redesigned login screen from the Shuttle project.
  • More AJAX to make custom fields, moderation, deletions, and more all faster. My favorite is the comments page, which new lets you approve or unapprove things instantly.
  • Pages can now be drafts, or private.
  • Our admin has been refreshed to load faster and be more visually consistent.
  • The dashboard now instantly and brings RSS feeds asynchronously in the background.
  • Comment feeds now include all the comments, not just the last 10.
  • Better internationalization and support for right-to-left languages.
  • The upload manager lets you easily manage all your uploads pictures, video, and audio.
  • A new version of the Akismet plugin is bundled.

Further info on the new version can be found here:

I'm gonna wait a little with the update, and follow how it goes from here.

SEO bloggers hacked through WordPress exploit

Seems SEO blogs have been targeted by a hacker who is using an exploit in the WordPress blog.
Several big sites have already been hit, and more hackings has been announced my this guy.
He had a wordpress blog, that got suspended and have now moved to blogspot to inform.

This is a snatch of what he has said his blogspot blog:

Anyways, I just started the first hacking cruzade... The easy targets (WordPress blogs with register_globals=on) using a custom PHP script based on this code

If you have a wordpress blog, you are highly recommended to upgrade it now. Patch 2.07 was released today. Read more here:

Permalinks AGAIN broken on this blog

Ok I'm to furious atm to do anything about this. I just fixed it a couple of days ago, and now the permalinks again give a 404, and I have no clue why.
I'm sorry for the disturbance it may be for those who drop by and want to read or comment on my posts, but need to go away and get my blood pressure down

Update 3 hours later:
Well, noticed WordPress released a new update 10 days after the last, so blog upgraded to 2.07 now.
That didn't fix my permalinks problem though, so started to deativate my plugins, and kept checking the status on my permalinks.. That fixed it!
It was between google sitemaps plugin and technocrati tags plugin it happend. Can't really see why any of these would have any impact on the permalinks, but it did something.
I could then activate them again and the 404's are gone.

Its great it works again, but periodically errors like this can really drive me crazy, because I can't find the main problem, and I like to solve problems.

Blog updated after failure in permalinks

From one day to the other all my permalinks just started giving 404 error codes on this blog. wtf!
This is one of the things I hate with software like this. Something goes wrong, and you have no clue where and what it is.

After several hours of testing, trying to correct, reading numberous of posts on the subject - I decided to delete everything except the database and start over. All the small tweaks and stuff I made went into the garbage can.
The positive things about it is the new upgrade I got with the new K2 theme.

I am flooded with work atm. so I will not have time to tweak this new blog as I did with the previous one. I might just use some of the standard plugins there are to be downloaded several places, when I get a little time 🙂

Stay tuned

Change or remove the "Category" from your permalinks on a wordpress blog

My friend Frank over at just gave me a good tip on how to remove the optional "Category" in your category URL's on a WordPress blog.

Normally the categories would look like this:

with the change it will become:

Find the file wp-includes/classes.php and about halfway down you can change the settings.
To remove the category like above do this:

$this->category_structure = $this->front . 'category/';

change it into this:

$this->category_structure = $this->front;

In the WordPress 2.1 branch you will find the code in wp-includes/rewrite.php
Thanks to Caio Proiete for informing

WordPress Version 2.3.x branch:
Delete this:
$this->category_structure = $this->front . 'category/'; else

WordPress Version 2.5.x branch:
I have not tried this personally, but reading from comments it is should be possible to now use the Base Category feature to disable the "category" directory.
Brad mentions in comment #27:
Adding the /. in Settings - Permalinks -Category Base field works fine in 2.5.
Where are ppl seeing the /. in the URL? (e.g. www
Im having no problems with it.

So feel free to test this out, and any reports back are appreciated.

UPDATED INFO - IMPORTANT: I noticed in my logs that this post is still getting traffic from people looking to change the category/ prefix.
I recommend a good plugin to handle this now:
Top Level Categories.
